Egnared Eremitage Residency (EER)

Egnared Eremitage Residency (EER) is an independent artist residency situated in the quiet inland of Halland, between the villages of Källsjö and Fagered in southwest Sweden. The residency offers time and space for reflection, research, and creation in close connection with nature and local life.

The main residence, built around 1850 with an extension from 1930, includes two bedrooms, a spacious living room with a fireplace, kitchen, bathroom, and studio space. Wi-Fi, a loom, and modern heating ensure comfort throughout the year. Just a few hundred meters away lies a lake with a rowing boat and fishing opportunities, and during the summer, sheep and cattle graze in the surrounding meadows.

At the far end of the garden stands Eremitaget – a small studio cabin with views toward a sheep pasture and an old mill. Built by the hosts with locally sourced timber, it serves as a peaceful workspace for writing, sketching, or reflection.

Each residency period is developed in dialogue with the artist, tailored to their interests and practice, and often connected to ongoing exchanges with artists across Europe. Recognizing that rural life can be both inspiring and solitary, EER also offers alternative short-term stays in Falkenberg, close to the beach and local art scene.

Hosts:
Christin Wahlström Eriksson is a visual artist, art consultant, and coordinator with long experience working creatively within institutions such as Kons i Halland, Halland Art Museum and the Swedish Prison and Probation Service. Holger Eriksson is a facility and stage technician with a background in social pedagogy. Having worked for fifteen years at Dômen Art School in Gothenburg, he brings both practical craftsmanship and long experience of supporting creative processes in artistic settings.Together they bring a wide network within art and culture, dividing their time between Gothenburg, Halmstad, Falkenberg, and Egnared.

Since acquiring the Egnared cottage in 2010, they have carefully restored the property, building Eremitaget in 2022 as a natural extension of their artistic practice — a place for solitude, focus, and connection.
